France's mercurially gifted fly-half Frederic Michalak's knee operation has been hailed as a success by doctors, the player's spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old damaged ligaments in his left knee playing for his club side Toulouse against Stade Francais last weekend.

Doctors say the operation "went well and that Fred will be treated in the best possible conditions," Michalak's spokeswoman Dalila Essediri told AFP by telephone.

It is the third knee injury suffered by Michalak inside four years and he will not return to action before the start of the 2010-2011 season.

The Toulouse-born star has 54 international caps to his name.
